FDA Clears Abbott’s Hematology Device

FDA has cleared an Abbott 510(k)for its Alinity h-series hematology system for use by laboratories to run complete blood counts (CBC). The device includes Alinity hq, an automated hematology analyzer, and Alinity hs, an integrated slide maker and stainer, according to the company. It also leverages Abbott’s MAPSS technology, which uses light scattering to distinguish cellular features and better identify various blood cells, it says.

Abbott says the Alinity h-series system can process up to 119 CBC results per hour. The system loads samples from the front and from a laboratory automation system, which allows urgent samples to receive priority processing without compromising capacity or workflow, according to Abbott.
