FDA Clears Avatar VR Surgical Planner

FDA has given 510(k) clearance to an Avatar Medical virtual reality surgical planning device. The company says it helps surgeons better prepare their procedures by using virtual reality representations of their patients. The patient avatars are generated instantly from CT scans or MRI images with an underlying proprietary technology, it says. The company says the avatars are valuable tools for pre-operative planning and can also be displayed during surgical procedures.
