FDA Clears Blood Collection Device

FDA has cleared a Seventh Sense Biosystems 510(k) for TAP, a new blood collection device. TAP is the world’s first push-button blood collection device that eliminates needle inserts to draw blood, according to the company. The small device is positioned on a patient’s upper arm and with just a “tap”, blood is collected. Future versions of TAP will enable patients to collect their own blood anywhere, the company says, adding that the current clearance allows healthcare workers to use TAP to collect capillary blood for hemoglobin A1c testing, which is routinely used to monitor blood sugar levels in diabetic or pre-diabetic patients.
