FDA Clears Dental Caries AI Detector

FDA has cleared a VideaHealth 510(k) for its Videa Caries Assist, an artificial intelligence-powered dental caries (cavity) detection algorithm. The device is designed to aid in the analysis of radiographs instantly from a dentist’s examination chair, according to the company. The clearance is based on trial data that showed the number of missed caries was 43% lower for dentists using the device, the company says. “Notably, the dentists using Videa’s AI also experienced a 15% average reduction in erroneous detections of caries lesions,” it says.
