# FDA Clears Expanded Use of Verax Platelet Use

FDA has cleared a Verax 510(k) to expand the indications for the [Verax Platelet PGD Test](http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fveraxbiomedical.com%2F&esheet=51538727&newsitemid=20170410005651&lan=en-US&anchor=Verax+Platelet+PGD%C2%AE+Test&index=1&md5=d2ebc56439dc4a010e71c3c0f822af08&ref=fdaweb.com) to include single units of leukoreduced or non-leukoreduced whole blood derived (WBD) platelets in plasma. The test previously was cleared for testing post storage pools of up to six leukoreduced or non-leukoreduced WBD platelets in plasma. Individual units of WBD platelets are often used as pediatric doses in U.S. hospitals, the company says, adding that the new clearance helps reduce the risk of bacterial contamination for this patient population.
