# FDA Clears Medrobotics Flex Robotic System

FDA has cleared a Medrobotics 510(k) for the Flex Robotic System and its use for colorectal procedures. The company describes the flexible device as the world’s first robotic surgical platform to offer “scar-free” access to hard-to-reach anatomy in otolaryngology and colorectal procedures. Traditional surgical robots were not designed to operate in the twisting and turning gastrointestinal system, the company says. Device access during surgery is gained through the mouth and anus, but future applications may allow access through other natural orifices such as the vagina, or through small incisions in the abdomen.
