FDA has cleared a NuVasive 510(k) for the CoRoent Small Interbody System indicated for intervertebral body fusion at multiple contiguous levels in the cervical spine. The interbody cage is manufactured from polyether ether ketone-Optima that is intended to provide stabilization of the spinal motion segment while fusion takes place, the company says. “A hollow core allows for packing of autogenous or allogeneic bone graft comprised of cancellous, cortical, and/or corticocancellous bone graft material to help promote a solid fusion,” it says. Rows of teeth on the surface of each end of the device help grip the adjacent vertebrae to resist migration and device expulsion. The device also includes marker pins composed of titanium alloy or tantalum.
