# FDA Clears OptMed’s BondEase Skin Adhesive

> FDA has cleared an OptMed Inc. 510(k) for its BondEase product, a topical skin adhesive intended for the closure of surgical incisions and lacerations as an alternative to sutures and staples. The biocompatible, topical skin adhesive combines a novel polymer technology with a user-friendly delivery device, according to the company.

> The clearance was based on clinical trial data from 162 patients in six surgical centers in the U.S. The trial compared BondEase with conventional sutures, staples, and adhesive strips, with data revealing no signs of infection, OptMed says. “All adverse results were mild and appeared to have no impact on the cosmetic outcome,” it adds. “Signs of inflammation at the wound sites were minimal and comparable between treatment groups.”
