FDA Clears Optovue Epithelial Mapping Software

FDA has cleared an Optovue 510(k) for its epithelial thickness mapping software for quantitative measurements of the epithelial and stromal layers of the cornea. Epi-mapping is intended to aid in the diagnosis, documentation and management of ocular health and diseases in the adult population, according to the company. “With epi-mapping, physicians are able to quantify epithelial thickness in patients in a manner that is suitable for daily clinical practice,” Optovue says. The software provides epithelial thickness information in a non-contact exam, whereas traditional epithelial measurements require high-frequency digital ultrasound and saline, it says.
