FDA Clears RDI System for Wound Care
FDA has cleared a RedDress Ltd 510(k) for its RD1 system, a device that allows health care providers to produce in real time in vitro whole blood clots for use in wound care. “Under the supervision of a healthcare professional, the whole blood clot produced by the RD1 System is topically applied for the management of exuding cutaneous wounds, such as leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and mechanically or surgically-debrided wounds,” the company says. It uses a patient’s own peripheral blood, which is injected into a clotting tray. Within 10 minutes, a clot is formed and placed on the wound, it says.
