FDA Commissioner Due to be Named?

Politico says that with a vote to confirm Rep. Tom Price as HHS secretary likely this week or next, nomination of an FDA commissioner should not be far behind. The report says that President Donald Trump signaled last week that he has made his choice, reportedly either former FDA deputy commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who is an American Enterprise Institute fellow, or venture capitalist Jim O’Neill.

Some observers have said that Trump’s deregulatory agenda for FDA favors O’Neill, while others have said that Gottlieb also fits well with Trump’s vision for the agency and may have an easier time being confirmed by the Senate.
