FDA Drug Approval Trends Slipping: Financial Analysts

A new report by RBC Capital Markets analyzing FDA approval trends finds a slowdown in drug approvals, a rise in rejected applications, and an increase in delayed reviews during the third quarter. Financial analysts found that the drug approval rate dropped to 73% in the third quarter, a significant decrease from the previous average of 87%. The analysis also highlighted a rise in rejected marketing applications to 15% and a 11% rate of delayed reviews, both higher than their historical averages. RBC attributes these trends to potential dysfunction at FDA, possibly compounded by short-staffing and leadership turnover.
