# FDA Enforcement Emphasis to Continue: Sklamberg

Former FDA deputy commissioner for global regulatory operations and policy **Howard Sklamberg**, now an Akin Gump attorney, says FDA will continue a strong emphasis on enforcement in 2018\. In an [interview](https://www.law.com/corpcounsel/sites/corpcounsel/2018/01/08/010818hclookahead/?ref=fdaweb.com) with *Corporate Counsel* on trends in 2018, he says that FDA commissioner **Scott Gottlieb** has reorganized the Office of Regulatory Affairs and has “set as a priority for FDA, quite directly, the importance of enforcement and the link between enforcement and public health…. Gottlieb has affirmatively said that enforcement is important for public health and that enforcement is an important function.”

Another likely development in 2018, he says, is development of more versions of trusted company programs, whether it’s pre-certification or other similarities. “Companies would want to be ready for that when pilot programs are announced and be ready to have a record to show that they should be among that list,” he says. “Of course, as trusted programs expand, it becomes more important to be in that group.”
