# FDA Enterprise Modernization Action Plan

FDA has published an Enterprise Modernization Action Plan (EMAP) as an agency-wide business process, data, and IT (information technology) management approach that will allow the agency to better leverage the vast amount of data that is the foundation of its work. An initial [document](https://www.fda.gov/media/158206/download?ref=fdaweb.com) says the three components of the EMAP are: 

- creating the infrastructure to support change;
- developing a common operational approach; and
- ensuring strategic alignment.

An Enterprise Transformation Operation (ETO) team has been created within the Office of the Commissioner to strategically review enterprise-wide challenges and implement optimized business processes. After reviewing ETO actions to date, the document says future plans include increasing staff, establishing an Office of Enterprise Transformation in the Office of the Commissioner, and continuing work across the agency to develop alignment and engagement in the critical activities.

“The result will be an environment where business process drives efficient IT development and use of data to optimize our critical and ever-expanding regulatory work,” the plan concludes.
