FDA Expanded Approval for Boehringer Asthma Therapy

FDA has expanded the approval for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals’ asthma medication Spiriva Respimat for the long-term, once-daily maintenance treatment of asthma in people age six and older. The agency approved the supplemental NDA under a priority review, and it also granted pediatric exclusivity for the product based on the clinical trials conducted by the company. Data supporting approval came from the Phase 2 and Phase 3 UniTinA-asthma clinical development program, which included more than 6,000 patients at over 150 sites. Spiriva Respimat was approved 9/2015 for the long-term, once-daily, prescription maintenance treatment of asthma in people age 12 and older.
