# FDA Explores AI Image Analysis for Complex Drugs

FDA is exploring whether it can enter into a five-year contract with an entity that can perform “non-invasive high-resolution imaging and artificial intelligence image analysis to characterize freeze-dried pharmaceuticals and complex drug products to understand the impact of advanced manufacturing techniques, formulation, and process parameters on product quality and performance.” A government notice says CDER’s Division of Product Quality, which conducts research to advance the adoption of emerging technology in pharmaceutical manufacturing, is seeking a contract service for this technology to measure and simulate physical and microstructural parameters, and correlate measured and simulated parameters with product performance and process parameters.
