FDA Flags Misleading Promotion of Generic Ketamine Drug

FDA has cited PharmaTher over alleged misleading promotional claims for its generic ketamine. An agency review found the company’s Web page omitted required risk information about the drug product. It also claimed the generic ketamine was approved “for surgical pain management” or “pain and surgery management,” language that deviates from the actual approved indication of the reference listed drug Ketalar Injection and misrepresents the drug’s use, according to a just-posted untitled letter.

The letter told the company to immediately cease and desist all misleading promotional communications for the product. It was also instructed to submit a written response detailing all promotional materials for the drug, the date they were submitted (if at all) under Form FDA-2253, and a plan to discontinue or modify the communications.
