FDA, FTC Warn 7 Companies About Covid Claims

FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have sent Warning Letters to seven companies for selling CBD (cannabidiol) products using research studies to claim or imply misleadingly that the products will cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent Covid-19. FDA says it has not approved or authorized any drug containing CBD to treat or prevent Covid-19.

The Warning Letters say each company’s products are unapproved new drugs that also are misbranded. The letters cite some of the claims made for the products and direct the companies to take immediate action to address the violations cited. They were told to respond by e-mail within 48 hours describing the specific steps they have taken to address the violations and prevent their recurrence, with related documentation.

Also included is an FTC cease-and-desist demand.

The letters were sent to Curgenics, Heaven’s Organics, Functional Remedies, Greenway Herbal Products, CBD Social, UPSY, and Nature’s Highway.
