FDA Funding Functional Capacity Assessment Tool

FDA has issued a grant to VeraSci to conduct further research on its virtual reality functional capacity assessment tool (VRFCAT). The company says the VFRCAT has been accepted into the agency’s clinical outcome qualification program as a measure of functional capacity for schizophrenia treatment trials. It says the project will use qualitative research methods to establish the clinical meaningfulness of this measure to patients, family members, and peer support specialists.

VeraSci describes VFRCAT as an eCOA task that simulates key instrumental activities of daily living in a realistic and interactive virtual environment. It says the tool was developed to improve clinical trials by detecting functionally meaningful improvements in patients’ everyday lives.
