# FDA Getting Stricter on Cybersecurity Enforcement

Given an FDA increased emphasis on cybersecurity, medical device manufacturers must prioritize compliance with regulatory standards. That’s the view of Mecrypt vice president **Naomi** **Schwartz**, a former FDAer, writing in an online *Medical Design & Outsourcing* [post](https://www.medicaldesignandoutsourcing.com/device-manufacturers-cyberattacks-new-rules-sec-disclosure/?ref=fdaweb.com). “The transition from leniency to strict enforcement,” Schwartz writes, “signals a new era of accountability in the healthcare industry.”

She says that to navigate the new landscape, organizations must incorporate cybersecurity considerations into their product development processes from inception. That would include developing comprehensive documentation, closely adhering to regulatory guidance, and fostering cross-team collaboration to address deficiencies promptly and effectively, she says.

“By adopting these measures,” Schwartz concludes, “companies can safeguard patient safety and sustain competitiveness in the market.”
