# FDA Grants Gamida Breakthrough Status for NiCord

FDA has granted Gamida a breakthrough therapy designation for its NiCord cellular therapy based on data showing improvement in absorption of neutrophils blood cells in bone marrow transplant for patients with high risk hematological malignancies (blood cancers). **NiCord is** an *ex vivo* expanded cell graft, utilizing Gamida’s proprietary NAM platform technology to expand cells from the umbilical cord blood. The therapy is “enriched with highly functional stem and progenitor cells as well as with immune modulatory myeloid derived dendritic cells,” according to the company.
