# FDA Greenlighting AZ Covid Vaccine Restart: Report

FDA reportedly has completed its review of a serious illness in an AstraZeneca Covid vaccine study participant and is ready to authorize the company to resume its trial. Four sources told *Reuters* that the trial is likely to resume as early as this week.

The news service [reports](https://www.reuters.com/article/health-coronavirus-astrazeneca-usa/exclusive-us-trial-of-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-may-resume-this-week-sources-idUSL1N2HB2HS?ref=fdaweb.com) that the vaccine’s U.S. trial has been on hold since 9/6 after a participant became ill with transverse myelitis, a rare spinal inflammatory disorder. The trial has already resumed in other countries.

*Reuters*’ sources said it was unclear how FDA would characterize the illness. An agency spokesperson declined to comment on the report.
