FDA in New AMP Heart Failure Program

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) says the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) Heart Failure program, which includes FDA among its members, has launched. The program is focused on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and is investigating the multiple factors that lead to HFpEF, seeking to determine the phenotypes that constitute the complex heterogeneous syndrome.

With FDA and the NIH in the AMP program are multiple biopharmaceutical and life sciences companies and non-profit organizations.

The NIH says HFpEF is considered the single largest unmet need in cardiovascular medicine. Currently, it says, no therapies have convincingly reduced mortality. The AMP HF program aims to identify HFpEF subtypes to discover new treatment targets, NIH says.
