# FDA Infectious Disease Designation for Taxis Pharma’s TXA709

FDA has granted Taxis Pharmaceuticals a qualified infectious disease product designation for TXA709, which targets acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections caused by *Staphylococcus aureus*, including methicillin-resistant strains. TXA709 is a prodrug that produces a derivative of benzoic acid that disrupts the form and function of the bacterial protein FtsZ, which plays an essential role in bacterial cell division, the company says.
