FDA Innovation Challenges on Device Sterilization

FDA has announced two “innovation challenges” to encourage the development of new approaches to device sterilization. They are:

Challenge 1: To identify safe and effective sterilization methods or technologies for medical devices that do not rely on ethylene oxide.

Challenge 2: To develop strategies or technologies to reduce emissions to as close to zero as possible from the ethylene oxide sterilization process.

FDA has planned an 8/13 Webinar to provide more information on the challenges, including details on submission requirements and what to expect if participating in a challenge. The challenge submission period ends 10/15.
