FDA Joining Pathology Innovation Collaborative Community

FDA will participate in the new Pathology Innovation Collaborative Community being convened by the Medical Device Innovation Consortium (MDIC) as a regulatory science initiative aiming to facilitate innovations in pathology that may advance safety and effectiveness evaluation. The group also is to harmonize approaches to speed delivery to patients using collaborative, pre-competitive approaches. This is the third collaborative community established by MDIC. An organization statement says the first two were the National Evaluation System for health Technologies Coordinating Center Collaborative Community and the Case for Quality Collaborative Community.

MDIC says the purpose of its collaborative communities is to bring together stakeholders in a continuing forum of private- and public-sector members to achieve common outcomes, solve shared challenges, and leverage collective opportunities. They ultimately seek to contribute to the improvement of areas affecting U.S. patients and healthcare, it says.
