# FDA Lists Voluntary Consensus Standard Changes

FDA has published a notice on changes made by the 21st Century Cures Act to clarify how the agency processes requests for recognition of voluntary consensus standards. The [notice](https://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/Standards/ucm123739.htm?ref=fdaweb.com) says that any interested party may submit a request for recognition of an appropriate standard established by a nationally or internationally recognized standard organization.

Specific changes made by the Cures Act, it says, were **(1)** adding a 60-day timeframe for agency response to recognition requests; **(2)** directing FDA to issue a response in writing; and **(3)** directing FDA to publish on its Web site its rationale for recognition of all, part, or none of a standard.
