FDA Making FOIA Changes in Info Regs

FDA says it wants to change its public information regulations to incorporate Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) changes from the Openness Promotes Effectiveness in Our National Government Act of 2007 and the FOIA Improvement Act of 2016. A Federal Register notice to be published 9/13 says the proposal also will update the current regulations to reflect changes to the organization, to make the FOIA process easier for the public to navigate, and to make provisions clearer. “Taken together,” FDA says, “these changes will enhance transparency for the public with regard to FDA activities. The proposed amendments to FDA’s public information regulations bring the agency’s regulations in line with statutory amendments to the FOIA, update cross references to other statutes and parts of the agency’s regulations, and clarify certain provisions with minor editorial updates.”
