# FDA Moving to a ‘Shared Services’ and Inspections Approach

FDA is codifying some of the changes made during the early months of the second Trump administration and consolidating administrative staff activities across the agency’s nine Centers. An internal agency memo reviewed by [NOTUS](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.notus.org/agencies/fda-officially-codifying-doge-era-reorgnization-inspectors&ved=2ahUKEwikgYLS%5FvWVAxUyj4kEHblGO4EQFnoECBgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1loHAO5reg4WN5qbmeF0W3) says FDA also will stop having specialized field inspectors as of 10/1.

The reorganization proposal known as “Simple Reform” has been approved by the administration, according to the memo NOTUS saw. The plan reportedly is that CDER, CBER, and CDRH will no longer conduct their own administrative activities like human resources, finance, and information technology services. Rather, there will be a “shared service” model in which the Office of Operations controls those functions across the agency.

For inspections, inspectors will be considered generalists and will conduct inspections and investigations across multiple regulated industries.

“Shared Services seeks to maximize efficiency and consistency,” the internal memo says.

NOTUS reports that some observers have expressed concern that the plan doesn’t recognize how specialized various aspects of the agency are and may end up creating more problems than it solves.
