# FDA OKs Corstasis Therapeutics Edema Nasal Spray

FDA has approved a Corstasis Therapeutics NDA for Enbumyst (bumetanide), a nasal spray loop diuretic for treating edema linked to congestive heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome in adults. The approval offers a new outpatient option for patients who often face limited choices between oral and intravenous (IV) diuretics, the company says, adding that oral loop diuretics can be hampered by poor absorption and slow onset, while IV therapy typically requires hospital care.

Approval was based on data from clinical studies that showed Enbumyst’s rapid absorption and a predictable diuretic response comparable to IV bumetanide, including effects on urine output, sodium excretion, and potassium balance, the company says.

Corstasis says edema and fluid overload remain a leading cause of hospitalizations for patients with heart failure, cirrhosis, and chronic kidney disease. More than 6.7 million Americans live with heart failure, and fluid overload contributes to over 1 million hospitalizations annually.
