FDA OKs Expanded Age Indication for Avita Medical’s Recell

FDA has approved a change to the age indication for Avita Medical’s Recell system in combination with meshed autografting for treating all sizes of acute full-thickness thermal burn wounds in both pediatric and adult patients. The expanded indication removes the prior limitation of use in patients under age 18 and says Recell can be used to treat full-thickness thermal burns in patients one-month-old and older. The indication also now includes treatment for full-thickness thermal burns that extend beyond 50% of total body surface area.

Avita says the revised indication is based on clinical data from the Recell compassionate use and continued access studies that were supported by the HHS Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
