FDA OKs Label Changes for Abbott’s Kaletra

FDA has approved changes to Abbott’s Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir) tablet and oral solution labels, for treating adult patients with HIV who have previously taken antiretroviral therapy. These changes include updates to the Dosage And Administration section with information about use of the oral solution with a feeding tube. “Because Kaletra oral solution contains ethanol, it is not recommended for use with polyurethane feeding tubes due to potential incompatibility.” an FDA notice says. Additionally, the Contraindications sections was updated with the anti-angina drug ranolazine’s potential for serious or life-threatening reactions, it says.
