FDA OKs LumiThera Dry AMD Treatment

FDA has granted de novo authorization to LumiThera for its Valeda light delivery system to treat patients with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The company says the Valeda therapy is the first authorized treatment for vision loss in dry AMD patients.

“Valeda provides an improvement in best corrected visual acuity over 24 months of >5 letters or equivalent to one line on the eye chart,” the company says. “In the pivotal U.S. LIGHTSITE III trial, the Valeda treatment met its primary endpoint and was shown to be safe and effective in increasing and maintaining improved visual acuity.”
