# FDA OKs Medtronic’s Altaviva Implant for Incontinence

FDA has approved Medtronic’s Altaviva implantable tibial neuromodulation device, described by the company as a minimally invasive therapy for treating urge urinary incontinence. The device, inserted near the ankle, works by sending mild electrical impulses to the tibial nerve to help restore communication between the bladder and brain, according to the company.

Medtronic says the implant is about half the size of a stick of chewing gum and sits just below the skin. It is designed for long-term use with a projected 15-year battery life. It automatically delivers therapy without daily adjustments or intervention and is MRI-compatible.
