# FDA OKs Merck Ebola Vaccine for Children

FDA has approved an expanded indication for Merck’s Ebola vaccine Ervebo (Ebola Zaire vaccine, live) to include its use in individuals 12 months of age and older. The vaccine was [previously approved](https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.merck.com%2Fnews%2Fmerck-announces-fda-approval-for-ervebo-ebola-zaire-vaccine-live%2F&esheet=53506261&newsitemid=20230803483465&lan=en-US&anchor=previously+approved&index=1&md5=04917fd43fd6b21807e4700dd8b7003a&ref=fdaweb.com) for use in individuals 18 years of age and older for prevention of disease caused by *Zaire ebolavirus*.

In 2021, Merck entered into an [agreement](https://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.merck.com%2Fnews%2Fmerck-confirms-agreement-with-unicef-to-establish-the-worlds-first-global-ebola-vaccine-stockpile-with-ervebo-ebola-zaire-vaccine-live%2F&esheet=53506261&newsitemid=20230803483465&lan=en-US&anchor=agreement&index=3&md5=046bf01601d13e7725d43e6b3729147f&ref=fdaweb.com) with UNICEF to establish the world’s first global Ebola vaccine stockpile with Ervebo to support future *Zaire ebolavirus* outbreak preparedness and response efforts. As of March, over 500,000 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to the stockpile, Merck says.
