# FDA OKs Synchron Stentrode IDE

FDA has approved a Synchron IDE application for its Stentrode motor neuroprosthesis. The company [says](https://synchron.com/press-release-july-28-2021?ref=fdaweb.com) an early feasibility study of the device will begin later this year at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York to assess device safety and efficacy in patients with severe paralysis.

Outcomes will include the use of brain data to control digital devices and achieve improvements in functional independence. FDA granted Breakthrough Device designation to Synchron 8/2020.
