FDA on Curbing X-ray Device Interference

FDA has posted recommendations for preventing the risk of damage caused by electronic interference with wearable medical devices including wearable diabetes devices, cardiac implantable devices, and neurostimulators. “FDA has received some reports of electronic medical devices being damaged during CT scans,” the post says. “Damage to the devices may be caused by interference from radiation during CT scans.”

Most of its recommendations are specific to CT scans, FDA says, but they may also apply to other imaging procedures.

The notice says that doctors recommend X-ray procedures, including CT scans, for people with electronic medical devices for medical reasons. “The probability of any issues is extremely low,” it says.
