# FDA Panel Votes Down Bayer’s Ciprofloxacin for Bronchiectasis

FDA’s Antimicrobial Drugs Advisory Committee has voted 9 to 6 against recommending approval for Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals’ ciprofloxacin dry powder for inhalation for use in treating non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis. Panel members said they had concerns about inconsistent data, drug resistance and having met only one of four primary endpoints in two studies. In a briefing document released in advance of the meeting, agency reviewers noted no unusual side effects linked to the treatment. Common side effects included headache, bronchospasm, dyspnea and cough.
