FDA Partial Withdrawal of OTC Monograph

Federal Register notice: FDA has announced a partial withdrawal of a proposed rule published in the 8/21/2003 Federal Register that would have amended the agency’s tentative final monograph (TFM) for over-the-counter (OTC) internal analgesic, antipyretic, and antirheumatic drug products to include ibuprofen as generally recognized as safe and effective for OTC use. FDA says it is withdrawing the proposed rule due to changes in its understanding of ibuprofen since FDA issued the proposed rule. FDA is not withdrawing those portions of the 2002 proposed rule to amend its regulations to include consistent pregnancy and allergy warnings for such drug products. To view the notice, click here.
