# FDA Pleased with $80 million in Stimulus Bill

With the president’s signing of the $2 trillion stimulus bill 2/27, FDA says it is pleased with an additional $80 million to fund its Covid-19 response efforts. The funding will go to developing medical countermeasures and vaccines, promoting advanced manufacturing for medical products and monitoring the medical product supply chain, according to a news [release](http://s2027422842.t.en25.com/e/es?s=2027422842&e=317154&elqTrackId=376c7bc788024cd5a73d955f2e3dcbdc&elq=bd29d7eec77f40249f09d0e6a0305af3&elqaid=11854&elqat=1&ref=fdaweb.com). The legislation also gives FDA new authorities to modernize over-the-counter (OTC) drug development and reviews ([see earlier story](https://www.fdaweb.com/stimulus-bill-includes-new-otc-drug-user-fees/)). “The FDA is committed to using these new tools to promote innovation and improve the safety and effectiveness of OTC monograph drugs — including products like hand sanitizers and acetaminophen, which are so critical to the public health emergency we face right now,” the release says.
