FDA Pleased with $80 million in Stimulus Bill

With the president’s signing of the $2 trillion stimulus bill 2/27, FDA says it is pleased with an additional $80 million to fund its Covid-19 response efforts. The funding will go to developing medical countermeasures and vaccines, promoting advanced manufacturing for medical products and monitoring the medical product supply chain, according to a news release. The legislation also gives FDA new authorities to modernize over-the-counter (OTC) drug development and reviews (see earlier story). “The FDA is committed to using these new tools to promote innovation and improve the safety and effectiveness of OTC monograph drugs — including products like hand sanitizers and acetaminophen, which are so critical to the public health emergency we face right now,” the release says.
