FDA Reviews South Korea’s Covid-19 Actions

With several sources worldwide declaring 4/2020 that South Korea’s Covid-19 response strategy had successfully “flattened the curve” of the disease, FDA says that country’s experience may be informative for future considerations. The agency has issued a report that particularly examines South Korea’s approaches to development, authorization, and use of diagnostic tests.

“FDA recognizes different approaches may work for different countries, and this report does not make recommendations for what approaches could or should be adopted in the United States for emerging infectious diseases,” the agency says.

Topics covered in the report are South Korea’s lessons learned from prior public health emergencies, development of tests for Covid-19, and national strategy.
