FDA Says Contaminated Cough Meds not in U.S.

FDA says it is monitoring reports of contaminated children’s cough and cold medicines manufactured in India but confirmed that the affected products have not been shipped to the U.S. An agency notice says it is aware of an ongoing investigation in India into cough syrups contaminated with diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol (EG) — industrial chemicals that can cause serious poisoning and death if ingested. According to India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, the contaminated products — Coldrif (Sresan Pharmaceuticals), Re-Life Syrup (Shape Pharma), and Respifresh-TR (Rednex Pharmaceuticals) — have been recalled domestically.
