FDA is informing patients, healthcare providers, and manufacturers about the SweynTooth family of cybersecurity vulnerabilities that may introduce risks for certain medical devices. An agency online [notice](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/safety-communications/sweyntooth-cybersecurity-vulnerabilities-may-affect-certain-medical-devices-fda-safety-communication?utm%5Fcampaign=SweynTooth%20Cybersecurity%20Vulnerabilities%20May%20Affect%20Certain%20Medical%20Devices&utm%5Fmedium=email&utm%5Fsource=Eloqua) says FDA is not aware of any confirmed adverse events related to the vulnerabilities. “Software to exploit these vulnerabilities in certain situations is already publicly available,” the notice says.

According to the notice an unauthorized user can wirelessly exploit the vulnerabilities to crash the device, deadlock the device, or bypass security to access device functions normally available only to an authorized user.

FDA says it is aware that these system-on-a-chip manufacturers are affected by the vulnerabilities — Texas Instruments, NXP, Cypress, Dialog Semiconductors, Microchip, STMicroelectronics, and Telink Semiconductor.
