FDA Staff Returning as Shutdown Ends

The U.S. Senate has reached an agreement to pass a continuing resolution that will end the current three-day government shutdown. Due to a heavy reliance on industry-paid user fees, FDA was able to keep 58% (10,050 staff) on the job Monday, according to an HHS contingency staffing plan, and its full staffing complement are expected to report back to work on Tuesday (1/23). However, FDA and the entire federal government may return to the threat of another government shutdown unless a budget solution is reached by Congress 2/8 when the continuing resolution expires.
