FDA Taps Outside Expert for CDER Regulatory Shop

FDA has chosen Pew Charitable Trusts drug regulatory policy expert Elizabeth Jungman as Office of Regulatory Policy director, effective in July. At Pew since 2014, Jungman oversees initiatives related to antibiotic innovation, prescription drug safety, over-the-counter medicines, and other consumer health care products.

Before joining Pew, she was a senior health policy adviser with the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, where she had a critical role in drafting and negotiating the FDA Safety and Innovation Act of 2012 and other health- and drug-related legislation, according to an email from the agency. Prior to Capitol Hill, Jungman was an associate at Covington & Burling from 2005-2011. For several years, she has served on FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee.

Jungman has a law degree from Georgetown University, a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard.
