# FDA Taps PATH’s Kaslow as Vaccine Chief

Non-profit PATH’s chief scientific officer **David Kaslow** has been selected as CBER Office of Vaccines Research and Review (OVRR) director, replacing **Marion Gruber**, who retired last year in protest over how the agency and Biden Administration were handling Covid-19 vaccine reviews and approvals. Last year, Gruber and her deputy **Philip Krause**, who also left the agency in protest, joined outside researchers to argue against requiring Covid-19 booster shots until data can show a necessary benefit ([see earlier story](https://www.fdaweb.com/retiring-vaccine-officials-reluctant-on-boosters/)).

PATH is described as a global team of innovators “working to accelerate health equity so all people and communities can thrive. We advise and partner with public institutions, businesses, grassroots groups, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges.”

At PATH, Kaslow also served as head of its Center for Vaccine Innovation and Access, which works to accelerate the development and introduction of lifesaving vaccines for communities around the world. He has more than 35 years of experience in vaccine research and development, and has been with PATH since 2012\. Previously, he was a vice president of vaccines and infectious disease at Merck Research Laboratories, and worked in vaccine development at the National Institutes of Health.

Kaslow received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He begins his FDA career 10/11.
