# FDA Updates Web Page on Medtronic HeartWare Recalls

FDA has updated a [Web page](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/cardiovascular-devices/medtronic-heartware-ventricular-assist-device-hvad-system?ref=fdaweb.com) it maintains on Medtronic recalls involving its HeartWare Ventricular Assist Device system that is intended to enhance user access to information about safety issues with the device. For example, the [latest notice](https://www.medtronic.com/content/dam/medtronic-com/global/HCP/Documents/hvad-urgent-medical-device-notice-update-oct-22.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) includes a recent [letter](https://www.medtronic.com/content/dam/medtronic-com/global/HCP/Documents/hvad-urgent-medical-device-notice-update-oct-22.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) from Medtronic that says two groups of the pumps may experience a delay to restart or failure to restart at a higher rate than other device groups. “Those two distinct subgroups were from specific component manufacturing lots that have exhibited differing failure rates,” it says. To address this, the company says it has developed an alternate pump start algorithm within the controller software that may help restart pumps for patients.
