FDA User Fee Reauthorization Passes House on Voice Vote

The House of Representatives 7/12 passed a bill (voice vote) to reauthorize medical product user fee programs for another five years beginning 10/1. Congress had made passage a priority in order to prevent layoff notices being issued to 5,000 agency employees, which reportedly could happen later this month.

The Senate has not scheduled a floor vote, but leadership reportedly wants this scheduled before the chamber’s August recess. However, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WA) has pledged to delay the bill unless it includes “right-to-try” language for patients to access investigational drugs.
