FDA Warning on Retractable Needles

FDA has updated a June recall notice to warn healthcare professionals not to use Guangdong Haiou Medical Apparatus Company’s Haiou Needle Retractable Safety 1 mL syringe with 23G 1-inch needle and the Haiou Needle Retractable Safety 1 mL syringe with 25G 1-inch needle due to the potential for device failures. “The affected needles and needle holders may detach from the syringe after injection and the needle may remain in a patient’s arm,” the update says. Additionally, it says affected needles may not retract into the syringe, which increases the risk of needle stick injuries to end users. The agency recommends that any unused product be removed from distribution and inventory.
